# Teams and Accounts

> The difference between your account and your teams, and what a team member can reach.

## Overview

The Ascienth console keeps two things apart:

* Your **account** is you. It holds your sign-in, your billing and your security settings. Only you can use it.
* A **team** is a group of servers and other resources. Your account owns at least one team, and you can invite other people into it.

When you join someone else's team, you keep your own account. You sign in as yourself, work on their servers, and switch back to your own team from the team menu at the top of the sidebar.

## What Belongs Where

| Belongs to a team | Belongs to your account |
| - | - |
| Virtual servers, Custom ISOs, snapshots, floating IPs and bandwidth | Account details and email address |
| Firewall groups, IP groups and private networks | Invoices, recurring payments and adding funds |
| SSH keys, boot images and scripts | Two-factor authentication and sessions |
| Members, roles and the team audit log | API keys and API IP groups |

The pages under "Account" in the sidebar always show **your own** account, whichever team you have selected. Switching to another person's team never shows you their invoices or their security settings.

## Billing in a Team

The team owner pays for everything in their team. A member with the right [role](/guides/team-members) can use the owner's account credit to buy servers, upgrades and other resources for the team, but the owner's invoices stay private to the owner.

<Note>
  A team member cannot see or pay the team owner's invoices. The "Invoices" page only ever lists the invoices of the person signed in. No team role can change this.
